On July 29th in Catania, we will launch Il Simposio della Pietra Verde (The Green Stone Symposium) with a clear goal: to restore philosophy to its original dimension of live, unfiltered public discourse.
This will be neither an academic conference nor a superficial talk show, but a genuine debate where logical rigor (the Apollonian element) engages with the spontaneity of live interaction (the Dionysian energy), involving a highly diverse audience.
If this idea appeals to you and you wish to be part of this experiment, please let us know how you would like to participate so we can coordinate the logistical and organizational details. Success for the First “Green Stone Symposium” at the Bastione degli Infetti
On Wednesday, July 29th, at 8:00 PM, the Bastione degli Infetti—a historic site in Catania kindly made available by the Municipality—hosted the first "Green Stone Symposium" (Simposio della Pietra Verde). The event was organized by the cultural association Greenstone in collaboration with Antico Corso, Agorà, Centro Studi Acitrezza, Icaro Journal, and Papavero APS.
Conceived and moderated by symposium organizer Danilo Caccamese, assisted by fellow Greenstone members, the evening featured a discussion among Danilo De Luca (Centro Studi Acitrezza), Francesca Guglielmino (Icaro Journal), Luca Zappalà (Papavero), and Rossano Fragale (Agorà). A large and diverse audience followed the debate on complex philosophical themes with interest; the topics were addressed in an enjoyable, convivial manner without sacrificing depth.
The voting process using *ostraka*—terracotta shards on which spectators marked their preferences with chalk, evoking ancient Greek practices—was highly appreciated. Contributing to the event's success were the *oinochooi* (wine servers) Veronica and Enza, as well as the critical judge, Professor Mario Guarnera, who ensured rigor in the evaluation of the contributions.
The overall winner was Rossano Fragale—at twenty-three, the youngest participant—who was awarded a €60 voucher for the Greenstone Book store and a *Linguae Acutissimae* letter opener.
Amidst wine, fresh fruit, and the evocative atmosphere of the Bastion, many attendees have already called for a future edition. Consequently, Greenstone is considering making the Green Stone Symposium a recurring summer event, while simultaneously preparing upcoming autumn initiatives, starting with *Poesie in Mostra* (Poetry on Exhibition).

The Philosophical Compass
Created during the first Green Stone Symposium, the Philosophical Compass is a small tool for navigating different worldviews. Through a brief questionnaire, it allows you to pinpoint your position on a philosophical map structured around the axes of transcendence, immanence, integration, and distinction.
